The History of “The Book of Job” Epic Reading

by Director, Simon Camilleri

Way back in 1999, as I young Christian who loved the theatre, I was fascinated to discover the Bible contained what seemed to be a script – The Book of Job. Ever since, I have dreamed of one day producing a dramatic reading or theatrical production of the book.

Jump forward to April 2020. The covid-19 pandemic had recently hit, and many were thinking of new creative ways of ministering to people in the face of potential suffering, death and confusion. It seemed like a perfect time to bring Job to the world. I gathered together a cast of quality Christian actors to portray the various characters in the story. As we could not gather in homes, and as the actors spanned four Australian states, we met on Zoom to discuss, prepare and rehearse. To this day, I have not met half the cast face to face.

On Friday 26th June 2020, we recorded the three hour long Zoom meeting during which we performed The Book of Job from start to finish. After a bit of editing, and the inclusion of the amazing original music by Nicky Chiswell, the video premiered on Sunday 28th June 2020.
